United States Gladiator Fights?

At first glance, gladiator fights seem very foreign to us.  They were so violent! So cruel!  So wrong!  Our knee-jerk reaction is to dismiss Rome's favorite entertainment as evil and say the US would never stoop to doing anything like that for fun.  But... Now that we've had a chance to talk about it as a class, do you still feel the same way?
